Birkelundstoppen turning loop

The trolleybus Bergen , in Norwegian trolleybus Bergen , is the last trolleybus operation still in operation in Norway . In addition to the Landskrona trolleybus , it is also one of only two in all of Scandinavia . To date it has been run by three transport companies :

  • Bergen Sporvei AS (until 1998)
  • Gaia Trafikk AS (1998 to 2006)
  • Tide ASA (since 1998)

history

The trolleybus system in the city of Bergen has existed since February 24, 1950. Since the 4.1 kilometer long diameter line 5 was converted to bus operation in the spring of 1995 , only radial line 2 , which opened on December 1, 1957, has been operated electrically. It currently runs between Strandkaiterminalen in the city center (Norwegian Sentrum ) and Birkelundstoppen.

After three extensions in 1958, 1985 and 2003, line 2 initially reached a length of 6.5 kilometers. In the course of the discontinuation of line 5, it also received a simplified line layout in the city center, there was a block loop over the streets Strandkaien and Strandgaten. In September 2010 the line in the city center had to be shortened somewhat due to the construction site. To turn around, a provisional block loop was set up via Olav Kyrres gate, Radhusgaten and Christies gate with a terminus in front of the old fire station. Since January 16, 2012, the previous block bypass with the final stop Strandkaiterminalen has been used again. Line 2 is now 7.2 kilometers long. Out of town, 23  stops are served, in the direction of the center there are 21 stops .

The travel time of line 2 is 32 minutes out of town and 34 minutes inward. It is usually operated every ten minutes , while the trolleybus only runs every 20 minutes during off- peak hours . Since up to eight courses are required to operate Line 2, but only six trolleybuses are available, there is regular mixed operation with natural gas buses .

In total, the following 79 vehicles have been procured for the Bergen trolleybus over the decades, the ones highlighted in gray are currently in operation:

The 9Tr imported from Czechoslovakia were the only trolleybuses that the manufacturer Škoda could sell to Western Europe during the Cold War . They were in use until 1986, the 302 and 306 were preserved as museum cars. One of the four Volvo / Hess solo cars is also in the museum's collection.

As early as 1997, the 6701, the first of the three duo buses, left the stock after a fire. Car 6702 was last equipped with a device for de-icing overhead lines before it was parked as a spare parts donor in winter 2010/2011 and later scrapped. 6703 was last only used in diesel mode because the switch to electric drive was no longer functional. In January 2012 it was up for sale.

The current vehicles bore the names of Bergen personalities, each of which stood above the windshield and on the roof edge of the trailer: Hans Wiers-Jensen (6334), Sofus Madsen (6335), Kristofer Janson (6336), Gerhard Gran (6337) Nordahl Rolfsen (6338) and Adolph Berg (6339). The trolleybuses now have the numbers 8194–8199, the wheel covers and the names have disappeared.
