Peppermint train

In 1870 the first preparatory work began for the new railway line - what was then the Saal-Unstrut Railway . On April 1, 1874, the time had come and the first locomotive drove from Buttstädt to Tromsdorf. On August 14, 1874, the Straussfurt – Großheringen railway was officially opened. Tromsdorf got a stop and thus a connection to the "big wide world".

At the opening of the line, the people of Kölleda probably decorated the locomotive with lots of peppermint garlands, so that someone is said to have exclaimed mockingly: "Look, our peppermint train is coming!" Since then, the locals have called this train Pfefferminzbahn (Pfeffi), an anecdote has to tell.

This railway line is still in operation today and is known and signposted as the peppermint railway . In spring 2005, the line from Buttstädt to Tromsdorf was modernized. The Thuringian Railway GmbH has been operating the route infrastructure since February 1, 2005 . With the timetable change in December 2017, passenger traffic on the eastern section Buttstädt - Großheringen was discontinued. Since then, freight trains have only run sporadically through Tromsdorf.

Well and local museum

BW

The former manor house of the Marschall family was reconstructed from 1987 to 1992 and is today, next to the church with the parish garden, the jewel in the community. The local museum has been located in the manor house since 2000.

Sights & culture

The church with the pulpit altar (built in 1751) and the baroque barn in the parish garden, as well as the manor building and the Waidmühlstein are worth seeing. Tromsdorf also has an active cultural and sports club.
