Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster is a private golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey , owned and managed by the Trump Organization .

history

The estate, which included the estate of sports car maker John DeLorean , was acquired by Donald Trump in 2002 for less than $ 35 million. Previously known as Lamington Farm, it had an unfinished three-hole golf course. After Trump acquired the land, two golf courses, each with 18 holes, were created under the guidance of golf course architects Tom Fazio and Tom Fazio II. The first golf course opened in 2004. Three years later, the club was rated # 73 ( Golf Magazine ) and # 84 ( Golf Digest ) in the US .

In 2012, membership of the golf club cost approximately $ 300,000.

From a tax point of view, the property is classified as agriculture , as hay is produced and eight goats are kept. The Wall Street Journal estimates this tax break will reduce the tax cost of the two golf courses from $ 80,000 to $ 1,000. The director of New Jersey's Sierra Club commented that Trump was "hiding behind agricultural valuations to get a massive tax break for his golf club."

In October 2009, the club hosted the wedding of Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump , to Jared Kushner .

In 2017 the club hosted the United States Women's Open Championship and in 2022 the Professional Golfers' Association of America awarded the club the PGA Championship for men.

Trump's presidency

After Trump was elected president in November 2016, the club was used for deliberations and interviews during the presidential transition. After taking office in January 2017, the property became one of his three official residences for the presidency alongside the White House - the other two are Trump Tower in New York (until 2019) and Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Mar-a-Lago is preferred in the colder months and the golf club in the warmer months.

In May 2017, Trump started using the property for weekend getaways, saying it was cheaper and less disruptive than a weekend at Trump Tower in New York. This made the club a “Summer White House”. Trump stayed in Bedminster for 17 days in August 2017 while renovations were taking place at the White House. Also in 2018 and 2019, Trump used the property on several summer visits.

Safety precautions

The Federal Aviation Administration imposes flight restrictions in and around Bedminster when Trump is in residence. Flights will then not be allowed within 10 miles and flight restrictions will apply within 30 miles. These restrictions affect 19 airports in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with two airports within the 10-mile radius being completely shut down during Trump's presence. Scheduled flights to and from Newark Airport are not restricted.

Trump mausoleum

In 2015, Trump acquired approval to create a family cemetery with a classic mausoleum on the property . Trump had indicated that he wanted to be buried on the Bedminster golf course.
