Zanko Tsvetanov (born January 6, 1970 in Swishtov ) is a former Bulgarian football player in defense . He played for the Bulgarian national soccer team , in the 2nd Bundesliga for SV Waldhof Mannheim and in the Bundesliga for Energie Cottbus .

Career

Tsvetanov played in his youth for his hometown club PFC Akademik Svishtov. In 1987 he was committed to FK Etar Veliko Tarnowo , where he stayed for six years. There he played a total of 141 games and scored three goals. Then Tsvetanov was under contract with Levski Sofia from 1993 to 1995 . Both in the 1993/94 and 1994/95 season Levski Sofia was Bulgarian champion. In 1993/94 he played all of the first two main rounds of the UEFA Champions League . In 1995 Zwetanow moved to SV Waldhof Mannheim, with whom he played in the 2nd Bundesliga. After only one season he went to FC Aberdeen , for which he competed in the 2nd round of the UEFA Cup , and stayed there until 1998. Then Energie Cottbus signed him. Together with the club Zwetanow succeeded in the 1999/00 season promotion to the Bundesliga. There he was only used five times - especially in the left midfield - and was usually not even represented in the squad. That's why he moved back to Levski Sofia in 2001, where he was champion and cup winner , and a year later to FK Etar Veliko Tarnowo, where Tsvetanow ended his career in 2003.

In 1991 Tsvetanov was in the squad of the Bulgarian national football team for the first time and made his debut in the same year. In 1994 he took part in the world championship and came there on six missions. Bulgaria reached the game for third place, which they lost 4-0 to Sweden . He was also part of the squad at the European Championship in 1996 , but did not reach the knockout phase there. In total, from 1991 to 1996, Tsvetanov played 38 games in the national team and scored twice.

After the end of his playing career Tsvetanow worked for several Bulgarian clubs, including FK Etar Veliko Tarnowo and Levski Sofia, as well as for the Bulgarian national team (2009/10) as an assistant coach. From 2011 to 2012 he was the head coach at FK Etar Veliko Tarnowo.
