Tscharukiw (Ukrainian Чаруків ; Russian Чаруков / Tscharukow , Polish Czaruków ) is a Ukrainian village in the oblast Wolyn . It is located in Lutsk district , about 20 kilometers southwest of the district and oblast capital Lutsk on the Polonka river . Administratively, the place forms together with the village of Vyurychi ( Вигуричі ) the district council of Tscharukiw.
The village was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1444 and belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland (in the Volhynian Voivodeship ) until the 3rd Polish partition , then came to the Russian Empire , where it was in the Volhynian governorate . In 1918/1921 it fell to Poland and came to the Volyn Voivodeship in the Powiat Łuck , Gmina Czaruków . As a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact , the Soviet Union occupied the area and made the place the capital of the Tscharukiw Rajon of the same name in January 1940 , but this was moved to Senkevychivka in the same year and Tscharukiw remained a simple village. After the German attack on the Soviet Union in June 1941, the place was under German rule until 1944 (in the Reichskommissariat Ukraine ), came back to the Soviet Union after the war and was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR , since 1991 Tscharukiw has been part of today's Ukraine.
