Tschebberwooky is a roots-acoustic-reggae-dub-ska-dance band from Austria .
history
The band was founded in 1997 by Peter Matauschek, Alexander Schweiger and Rabia Janisi. The band quickly grew with Reini (guitar), Gmoa (drums) and Mr. Baff (bass) and the last didgetalman on the keyboard to form the seven-piece formation Tschebberwooky.
In 2001 the single O'le le , a five-language African song with international participation by Henry Bourgat (France), Lee Xanadu (Jamaica) and the vocal support of the Bruck / Mur choir was released. There was a short break before the first live experiences were made with the Jump on the riddim tour in Austria and Germany.
In 2005, the album Everything Cook & Curry, produced in Sam Gilly's "House of Riddim Studio", was released . The long player received a lot of attention and it was a success. Tschebberwooky was voted into the finals of the top 15 by Austria's largest radio station Ö3 from over 600 bands. From then on it went quickly and the much acclaimed EP Happy Hurray followed in summer 2006.
The band toured tirelessly in the past three years through smaller clubs, but also played at major festivals such as the Pfingstopenair in Passau , Sunsplash Wiesen , the House of Riddim Festival in St. Pölten and the Greenvalley Festival in Aflenz .
In February 2007 Tschebberwooky was honored with the “Austrian Newcomer Award” and won the audience award as the best band of the evening.
With their fourth album production Tschebberwooky & friends are the wooky people unplugged , released in 2008 via Sony BMG , they have dedicated themselves to quieter, more sustainable tones. For their latest long player, the Tschebberwookys invited musicians friends to their studio and rehearsal rooms to work together on the new songs. A total of eleven musicians with various instruments were involved in this production.
In 2009 and 2010 the basic line-up of the band toured the country again with two new musicians on saxophone and trombone and played again at numerous festivals (Africa Days - Danube Island Vienna, Chiemsee Reggae Summer , Redbull Brandwagentour).
In 2009 the video for the first free download single Riddim was presented, which was produced in cooperation with Atomic and Red Bull .
In 2010 the band released the single No More Warning as 7 "with a limited edition of 500 pieces and a download MP3 code. In March 2011 the video for the single No More Warning was presented on various video portals and on gotv .
style
When they experimented with a wide variety of sounds in their early years, the unmistakable Tschebberwooky style developed in the course of their musical work. Inspired by a joint trip to Jamaica , they have increasingly devoted themselves to the reggae sounds. The band's repertoire includes ska, dance, dub and acoustic tunes.
Many of Tschebberwooky's texts deal with critical topics and are intended to stimulate thought and to point out various grievances in our society and in this world.
social commitment
Tschebberwooky is socially committed and supports, for example, the organizations Zikomo and Karibu Care in Africa.
