Tschisi is a brand for an ice cream product of the Unilever group, which was marketed in Austria by Eskimo from 1990 to 1999 and also for a short time in Germany . It enjoys cult status in Austria.

Tschisi is an ice cream with a vanilla flavor on a wooden stick, the ice surface of which is provided with round notches by means of "pressure forming". Due to the yellow color and the notches, the ice cream is reminiscent of cheeses with similar characteristics (e.g. Emmentaler ), which is why the name Tschisi is based on the English word for cheese, "cheese".

The ice cream was developed in 1989 as a small ice cream for the target group of children and marketed with great success in Austria until 1999. In 1999 it was taken out of the range after a decline in demand.

comeback

Shortly after the ice cream was taken off the market, there were movements that demanded the ice cream back, either through petitions or newspaper entries. However, these were unsuccessful.

On October 18, 2012, Peter Brandlmayr from Salzburg founded the Facebook page “We want the Tschisi-Eis back”, which at the beginning of March 2013 had over 88,000 supporters. Eskimo initially responded with refusals because the ice could not be technically produced according to current safety standards. According to her statements, the wooden sticks break when the holes are pressed. Eskimo announced on its own Facebook page at Christmas 2012 that everything was being done to reintroduce the Tschisi, but emphasized that it was not yet possible to say when it would be available in stores again.

Between January and March 2013, the media also reported on the latest developments on the Facebook page, such as Kurier , Salzburger Nachrichten , News magazine or Life Radio , Radio Arabella and Radio 88.6 . The Puls 4 television format Café-Puls reported on January 15, 2013 about this campaign. A lot of support also came from the regional radio station Welle 1 and its presenter Georg Pollak.

On February 13, 2013 Eskimo announced on its Facebook page that it would be producing "Tschisi" again and bringing it back onto the market in March 2013 in its original packaging, color and taste. However, the ice cream will be sold without the characteristic holes for the time being, because the necessary machine no longer exists.

After the start of sales on March 4, 2013, according to Eskimo, over 1.7 million chisis were sold in the first seven days. For other types of ice cream, this number is sold on average within a whole year.
