Tschorna ( Ukrainian Чорна ; Russian Чёрная Tschjornaja , Romanian Ciorna , Polish Czarna , more rarely Cernaia ) is a village in the northwest of the Ukrainian Odessa Oblast with about 2100 inhabitants (2001).
Chorna was founded in the second quarter of the 18th century by settlers from Moldova and refugee farmers from right-wing Ukraine . The name of the village goes back to the valley, overgrown with dense black oak forest, in which the founders settled. The residents initially lived in several farms, which over time merged into one settlement. In 1796 the village had 345, two years later 450 inhabitants and in the 1850s / 60s there were 700 inhabitants. From August 7, 1941 to March 28, 1944 the village was occupied by German and Romanian troops.
Chorna is the administrative center of the 101.63 km² district council of the same name in the west of Okny Rajon , to which the village of Dihory ( Дігори , ⊙ ) with about 170 inhabitants belongs.
The village is located near the border with the breakaway province of Transnistria of the Republic of Moldova in the valley of Trostyanets ( Тростянець ), a 46 km long right tributary of the Jahorlyk ( Ягорлик , Dniester river system ), 14 km northwest of the district center of Oessakny and 188 km northwest of the center of Odessa Oblast .
Territorial roads T-16-12 and T-16-24 intersect in the village .
