Tschortoryja ( Ukrainian Чортория ; Russian Чортория Tschortorija , Romanian Ciortoria , German / polish Czartoria ) is a village in the Ukrainian oblast Tscherniwzi with about 750 inhabitants (2001). Administratively, the village belongs to the district council of the village of Brusnyzja, 5 km south-east, within the Kizman district .
Chortoryja is located on the T-26-01 territorial road and on the right bank of the Cheremosh River , the border river between the historical regions of Galicia and Bukovina . The village is located 36 km northwest of the Oblast capital Chernivtsi and 26 km southwest of the district center of Kizman . Among the architectural monuments in the village is one of the most beautiful palaces in Bukovina, Manesku Castle, which today houses a neuropsychiatric orphanage.
Personalities
On June 15, 1941, the film actor, director and screenwriter Ivan Mykolaitschuk († August 3, 1987 in Kiev ) was born in Chortoryja , to whom a museum is dedicated in the village.
