The 392 km long Tschulym ( Russian Чулым ) is a river in the drainless basin of Lake Tschany in the southeast of the West Siberian lowlands ( Russia , Asia ).

The Chulym formed from several tributaries in the swamps Toiskoje Saimischtsche ( Тойское Займище ) and Troschinskoje Saimischtsche ( Трошинское Займище ) north of the baraba steppe , about 100 km north-west of Novosibirsk , at about 150  m above sea level. NN . It crosses the Barabasteppe - always on the territory of Novosibirsk Oblast - in a south-westerly direction, flows through the lakes Sargul ( Саргуль , area 34.6 km²) and Urjum ( Урюм , 84.1 km²) and finally flows at 106  m above sea level. NN in the lake Kleine Tschanysee ( Малые Чаны / Malyje Tschany), which in turn is connected to the Tschanysee or is its south-eastern continuation.

The catchment area of ​​the Tschulym covers 17,900 km². In the lower reaches the river is about 30 m wide, up to 5 m deep, the flow velocity is 0.1 m / s. The main tributaries are, from left, the Suma ( Сума ) and only a few kilometers from the mouth of the Kargat in Chany, from the right Kargat .

The town of Chulym, named after the river, is located on the upper reaches of the river . Here the river is crossed by the Trans-Siberian Railway and the M51 highway .

The Tschulym freezes from November to April / beginning of May.
