Coordinates: 54 ° 46 ′ 58.3 ″  N , 9 ° 26 ′ 10.3 ″  E The Tummelum is Flensburg 's largest old town festival, which is attended by several hundred thousand at weddings and is known for its fun Olympics , which make the festival entries into the Guinness - Book of Records . The festival mile in downtown Flensburg stretches from Südermarkt over Holm , Große Straße , Nordermarkt to Willy-Brandt-Platz at the Schiffbrücke .

history

The name is derived from the mixed language Petuh and means something like "restlessness". The nucleus of the three-day folk festival is the city's 700th anniversary in 1984, which was continued with the Tummelum two years later. The inventor and maker of the Tummelum, most recently in 2012, is the culture manager Michael Reinhardt, known as the organizer of the music bar Galerie , which the partners in the heart of the city commissioned in 1986 to design the Flensburg city festival. The organizers covered the total costs of around 76,000 euros in 2012 by renting stands, participating street cafes and voluntary contributions from retailers .

The festival usually took place every two years in spring / summer and is officially organized by IG Flensburg inner city . However, there have been irregularities in the timing in recent years: Although there was a festival in 2009 with 150,000 visitors and in 2012, none was planned for 2014 and 2016.

In the Guinness Book of Records Johann Traber is listed on the Tummelum 2005 at 53 km / h fastest wheelie ( on the rear wheel drive ) on a rope succeeded.

program

At the start of the official opening, the city president taps a beer keg , similar to the tapping of the keg at the Munich Oktoberfest . In the event area, shops in the city center offer shopping activities and put on a musical program. In 2012 the motto was: “Sing, Flensburg, sing!” So far, local artists have performed at the Tummelum, including the following singers, musicians, dancers, choirs and individual entertainers: Harry Schmidt alias Big Harry , Marquardt Petersen , the Flensburg band Ludwig Van , 1991 the Angeliter Trachtengruppe von 1979 eV, the Fördemöwen , HighFive Shantychöre, fire brigade orchestra , the ABBA - cover band Abbafever and the youth big band of the old grammar school . Also in 2009 at an ecumenical service on the Südermarkt, the Schleswig Bishop Gerhard Ulrich gave an open-air sermon.
