Tupper Lake is a village in Franklin County . In 2010 the Village of Tupper Lake had 3,667 residents. The name of the Village and Town of Tupper Lake is derived from the lake of the same name , which in turn owes its name to the surveyor Ansel Norton Tupper, who drowned in it while fishing. The Town and Village of Tupper Lake are in the southwestern part of Franklin County.

history

The village was first settled around 1844 and logging contributed to Tupper Lakes' growth. Initially, Tupper Lake consisted of two parts, Tupper Lake itself and Faust. In 1899, 169 buildings burned down in a fire, two thirds of which were residential buildings.

New York State Route 3 runs into the village from the north and New York State Route 30 from the south; they lead in a common route eastwards out of the village towards Upper Saranac Lake .

The Raquette River drains the lake south of the village and meanders to the east. Via it, the village belongs to the catchment area of ​​the St. Lawrence River .

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Tupper Lake lived in 3935 people. The population density was 853.5 people per km ². There were 1,839 housing units at an average of 398.9 per km ².
