Schaghticoke ˈskætɨkoʊk is a town in Rensselaer County , New York in the United States . At the 2010 census, the Town of Schaghticoke had 7679 inhabitants. The Schaghticoke are an Indian tribe that originally lived in this area. The town is on the northern edge of the county, north of Troy . Within the town there is a village of the same name and parts of the Village of Valley Falls .

history

The first permanent settlement by European settlers began in 1668. The Town of Schaghticoke was incorporated in 1788 and emerged from a district that was still part of Albany County in 1772 .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of ​​134.3 km², of which 129.3 km² is land and 5.1 km² (= 3.76%) is water.

The northern boundary of the city forms the boundary with Washington County and the western boundary is formed by the Hudson River, which is also the boundary with Saratoga County .
