Tupper Lake is a town in Franklin County, New York . Until July 16, 2004, the Town of Tupper Lake was still called the Town of Altamont , but was then renamed to avoid confusion with the Town of Altamont in Albany County .

Tupper Lake is located in southwest Franklin County amid the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest . It is located on Raquette Pond , a tributary of Tupper Lake . Part of the city is the Village of Tupper Lake , which was founded in the second half of the 19th century as a settlement for loggers from the Pomeroy Lumber Company.

geography

According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 337.0 km², of which 303.9 km² is land and 33.1 km² (= 9.82%) is water. It lies within Adirondack State Park , and the southern boundary of the parish forms the border with Hamilton County , while St. Lawrence County is adjacent to the west . The town bears the same name as the lake in the southwest of the county, which partially extends into St. Lawrence County. Neighboring to the north is the Town of Waverly , to the east the Town of Harrietstown and to the north of it Santa Clara .

The south of the town with the eponymous lake and the second largest lake in the town, Wolf Pond , is drained by the Raquette River , while the northeast and north are drained via the West Branch St. Regis River .

New York State Route 30 , coming from the south, runs along the east bank of the lake and meets in the Village of Tupper Lake with New York State Route 3 , which comes from St. Lawrence County to the west. Both roads then have a common course into the Town of Santa Clara, where they separate again and resume their original directions.
