Tower on Mailänder Platz is the name of a high-rise building that is currently under construction on the eponymous square in Stuttgart's Europaviertel . Construction should start in mid-2018 and be completed in 2020. In fact, construction began in November 2018, and completion was forecast for 2021. The high-rise should be 60 meters high, the base construction should have the same height as the Milaneo opposite . In addition to the residential and hotel complex Cloud No. 7 and an office building by LBBW , the building is the third permitted high-rise in the Europaviertel.

Planning and implementation

According to the specifications of the development plan, a high-rise building up to 60 meters high can be built on the 1,800 square meter property. A preliminary construction inquiry from the investor Strabag Real Estate GmbH was received by the city administration in November 2015, and in May 2016 Deutsche Bahn sold the property to Strabag . In April 2016, Turm am Mailänder Platz GmbH & Co. KG , based in Stuttgart, was entered in the commercial register. The RKW Architektur + office emerged from an architecture competition and originally planned to green the facade. A subcommittee of the Stuttgart City Council was formed to support the project. A Premier Inn hotel is to move into the new building . Construction began in November 2018 and completion is scheduled for 2021. The foundation stone was laid in July 2019.

On the construction site of the high-rise is part of the tram route of the U12 of the Stuttgart trams , completed in 2017 , which runs in two tunnels below.

criticism

Because of the high purchase price, the Greens in the Stuttgart municipal council in September 2015, before the sale, expressed concerns that cold beds could be created there.
