Tycho Tullberg

Tycho Fredrik Hugo Tullberg (born October 9, 1842 in Uppsala , † April 24, 1920 ) was a Swedish zoologist .

Life

Tullberg enrolled in Uppsala in 1863 as a student and obtained his PhD in philosophy ( filosfie doktor ) in 1869 , whereupon he became a lecturer in zoology two years later . In 1876 he received a provisional professorship at the Institute for Zoology and Zootomy within Uppsala University, which he co-founded . This interim position was converted into a recognized chair in 1879 , a position he held until 1907. At the same time he was from 1902 inspector for Linnés Hammarby .

As a relative of Carl von Linné , he wrote some literary works about the natural scientist and his family, such as family traditioner om Linné (1878) or Linnéportrait (1907). He also wrote popular science articles for various publications such as De menniskolika aporna (The humane monkeys, in Vetenskap för alla , 1878) or Djurriket (The animal kingdom, in Svenska biblioteket , 1885) as well as articles for the lexicon Nordisk familjebok .

Tullberg went on several study trips within Sweden and abroad, including spending 25 summers in Bohuslän .

Tullberg's grave is in the old cemetery in Uppsala ( Uppsala gamla kyrkogård ).
