Tyrone Washington

Tyrone Washington (* 1944 ) is an American jazz - tenor saxophonist .

Tyrone Washington took part in the 1966/67 recordings of Horace Silver and Larry Young for the Blue Note Records label , before he was given the opportunity to record for Blue Note himself in late 1967. Woody Shaw , James Spaulding , Kenny Barron , Reggie Workman and Joe Chambers contributed to his album Natural Essence . In 1968 he recorded with Jackie McLean ; further own recordings in the same year for Blue Note with Herbie Hancock , Herbie Lewis and Jack DeJohnette remained unreleased (called Train Wreck Session ). In 1968 he played with Eddie Henderson ; in the following years he worked on recordings of Stanley Cowell ( Brilliant Circles ), Heiner Stadler and Roswell Rudd ; he also released two other productions for smaller labels, u. a. with Stafford James , René McLean and Idris Muhammad , before leaving the music scene for presumably religious reasons. In the field of jazz he was involved in 12 recording sessions between 1966 and 1976.
