The Karlsplatz underground station is an underground light rail station of the Essen Stadtbahn in Essen 's Altenessen -Nord district. This makes it the northernmost underground station of the Essen Stadtbahn, as well as a terminus of this.
Location and structure
The underground station has two tracks with a central platform. They can be reached via stairs, escalators and barrier-free with an elevator system . There is a sweeping system north of the underground station.
history
On September 30, 2001, the Karlsplatz tram station was opened in the course of the commissioning of the underground section between the university and Karlsplatz for the two tram lines U11 and U17. Before that, tram line 106 ran here on Altenessener Strasse. Since the tunnel was built, this has ended at Essen-Altenessen train station .
service
The city station is now served by the U11 and U17 lines. Like the rest of the public transport, they are served by the Ruhrbahn .
