The USS Green Bay (LPD-20) is an amphibious transport dock of the United States Navy and belongs to the San Antonio class . It is named after the city of Green Bay , Wisconsin .
history
LPD-20 was commissioned in 2000 and laid down at Avondale Shipyard in 2003 . After three years the ship was launched. Godmother was Rose Magnus, wife of Robert Magnus , Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps . The handover to the Navy took place on August 29, 2008, the Green Bay was put into service on January 24, 2009 in Long Beach as the fourth ship of its class and stationed in San Diego .
In February 2011, the Green Bay moved alongside the USS Boxer (LHD-4) in the Indian Ocean, where they took part in exercises with friendly navies.
As the successor to the USS Denver , she arrived in her new home port Sasebo on February 19, 2015 , where she joined the amphibious group ( English Amphibious Ready Group ) of the USS Bonhomme Richard .
