The USS Ohio (SSBN- / SSGN-726) is a submarine of the United States Navy and the lead ship of the Ohio class .
history
The Ohio shipyard was Electric Boat , and the boat was officially put into service on November 11, 1981. In October 1982, the Ohio began the first deterrent patrol, followed by 49 more by 1998, making the Ohio-class type ship the first of its class to complete 50 mission trips.
At the beginning of the 21st century, the Ohio was supposed to be taken out of service. Instead, she was converted into an SSGN from the end of 2002 in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard . As a special platform for launching cruise missiles , the Ohio was reassigned to the fleet in 2006. In October 2007, the boat began its first mission in its new role.
