history
The construction contract was awarded to the Electric Boat of General Dynamics Corporation in Groton , Connecticut . The keel was laid on January 10, 1984. The launch took place on April 23, 1988; Mrs. Marilyn Garrett was godmother. The ship was commissioned on September 9, 1989 with Captain Richard M. Camp as Commanding Officer of the Blue Crew and Captain A. Lee Edwards as Commanding Officer of the Gold Crew.
On September 29, 1989, the Pennsylvania ran aground when entering Port Canaveral , Florida . However, tugs got the boat afloat again within two hours.
