Uibaí , officially Município de Uibaí , is a small town in the Brazilian state of Bahia . The municipal city is 536 km northeast of the capital Salvador .
According to the 2010 census, the community has 13,625 inhabitants, who are called Uibaiens. It ranks 271st in Bahia by population. The number of inhabitants was calculated according to the estimate of the IBGE from July 1, 2014 to 14,460 inhabitants. The area is rounded 551 km²; the population density is 24.7 people per km².
history
In the first half of the 19th century, the interior of Bahia was opened up by cattle breeding and gold digging, with predominantly Afro-Brazilian slaves being used. Sparsely populated, the area was initially a district called Canabrava do Gonçalo , which was renamed Distrito de Uibaí on November 30, 1938 and belonged to the municipal city of Xique-Xique (Chique-Chique). After regional reforms in 1960 it belonged to the city of Central . On September 22, 1961, the place was elevated to the municipal city Município de Uibaí , Uibaí for short, officially installed on April 7, 1963 after the necessary first elections and spun off from Central.The place became the seat of the district of the same name. January 1979 in a second district, Hidrolândia , was divided.

City administration
After the local elections in 2012, Pedro Rocha of the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT ) is the city prefect (executive) for the 2013 to 2016 term , the legislature lies with the Câmara Municipal, the city council. The place is also the seat of the district of the same name.
Together with 18 other municipalities, it forms the Irecê microregion , which is one of five microregions of the Centro-Norte Baiano mesoregion .

Infrastructure
Coming south of Poço , the BA-434 leads north via Hidrolândia, to the east the BA-225 begins in Uibaí and leads to Presidente Dutra . The nearest airport is between Irecé and Lapão.
