In addition to the embassy in Washington, DC, Ukraine has consulates general in the American cities of Chicago , San Francisco and New York . There are also honorary consulates in Birmingham , Cleveland , Detroit , Houston , New Orleans , Salt Lake City and Tucson .

history

After Ukraine declared its independence in December 1991 , the USA recognized it as an independent state on December 26, 1991. On January 3, 1992, the two states established diplomatic relations.

The first ambassador of Ukraine to the USA was Oleh Bilorus ( Олег Григорович Білорус ; 1992-1994). Subsequent ambassadors were Jurij Schtscherbak ( Юрій Щербак ; 1994-1998), Anton Butejko ( Антон Бутейко ; 1998-1999), Kostyantyn Gryshchenko (2000-2003), Mykhailo Reznik ( Михайло Резнік ; 2003-2005), Oleh shame Chur ( Олег Шамшур ; , 2006-2010) Oleksandr Mozyk ( Олександр Моцик ; 2010-2015) and Valery Chaly (2015-19 July 2019).. Since then Andriy Janewskyj (forwards Андрій Яневський ) the message as Temporary Charge d'Affaires of Ukraine in the United States.

Embassy building in Washington, DC

In the building known as Forrest-Marbury-House , built in 1788 with a view of the Potomac River , which originally belonged to Uriah Forrest , an agreement was reached on March 29, 1791 between the American government and 19 landowners to transfer land to the government, to build a new capital. This makes Forrest Marbury House one of the most notable monuments in American history and the birthplace of the federal capital Washington, which is why the building was listed as a monument worth preserving on the National Register of Historic Places with the number 73002084.

The Ukrainian government acquired the Washington embassy building on December 31, 1992 and opened a memorial room for President George Washington in the house on June 27, 1997 . The building is located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington at 3350 M Street Northwest, 20007 Washington, DC
