Ulf Großmann (politician)

Ulf Wolfram Großmann (born July 22, 1957 in Dresden ; † January 7, 2020 ) was a German local politician ( CDU ) and from 2011 President of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony . From February to June 1998 he was acting Lord Mayor of the independent city of Görlitz .

Live and act

Großmann grew up in Dresden and graduated from high school there in 1976. From 1978 to 1982 he studied at the Liszt School of Music Weimar and graduated as a certified teacher for music education. Großmann then worked as a music teacher and choir director in Görlitz until 1990.

During the turnaround and peaceful revolution in the GDR , the member of the East CDU was actively involved and participated in the round table of the city of Görlitz. Großmann was one of the initiators of a "round table on education" in Görlitz.

In 1990 he was elected head of the department for culture, tourism and sport by the Görlitz city council. Four years later he was elected as head of the department for culture, tourism and sport as well as first deputy to the Lord Mayor of Görlitz, Matthias Lechner . After Lechner was successfully voted out of office, Großmann took over the office of mayor from February to June 1998 and was given the title of "mayor". In the subsequent election of the mayor, Großmann stood for the CDU and was defeated by the non-party candidate Rolf Karbaum . In 2001 he was re-elected as mayor for culture, education, youth, sport, health and social affairs. Ulf Großmann was chairman of the cultural committee of the German Association of Cities and a member of the Saxon cultural senate until 2008 . Until 2009 he was also a member of the Baden-Württemberg State Art Council. With the establishment of the Silesian State Museum Foundation in 1996, Großmann was a representative of the City of Görlitz on the Board of Trustees for ten years and since 2006 a member of the Board of Trustees of the Silesian Museum Görlitz.

In 2008 he retired from the office of Görlitz mayor of culture and then worked as a cultural advisor, lecturer and project manager. In 2011, Großmann was appointed as the successor to Steffen Heitmann as President of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony .

Großmann had been married since 1980 and had six children. He lived in Markersdorf .
