After numerous other publications in books, notebooks and anthologies, his big city satire The Sea Cucumber Principle was published by Carlsen Verlag in 1990 . In the 1990s he organized the INC group exhibition Comics in the Kiez every year . They began in 1992 - in an occupied house, the former Caesar's Palace, on the Reeperbahn - with what was until then the largest comic exhibition in Germany under the title In the beginning was the line .

His Hamburg hidden objects , trashy and detailed city panoramas, which he has published every year since 1999 as the comic calendar Hamburg Total , are particularly well known . In 2005 he illustrated the Langenscheidt football dictionary "Fußball - Deutsch" by Gerhard Delling . In January 2015, Harten presented his “Hamburg Total” retrospective with 50 motifs for the first time in the Factory of the Arts in Hamburg-Hamm . The follow-up exhibition "Hamburg total 2" in the Fabrik der Künste is planned between February 26 and March 8, 2020.

He lives and works together with the author and illustrator Doris Dörr - alias "DM Trocken" - in a listed tower of the former Palmin factory on the Jaffe-Davids Canal in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg .

style

Harten says of himself that he is “one of the last free-running examples of analogue comic book culture [...]” and sees himself in the tradition of the comic artist Carl Barks . He explains his working technique as follows: “I make the preliminary drawings with a pencil and an eraser, then I use the brush and ink to make a line drawing on drawing paper, which is then colored with markers”. He describes his genre as “city caricatures” or “caricature of architecture”.
