Uli Baur

Uli Baur (born February 14, 1956 in Herrsching am Ammersee ; † September 8, 2018 ) was a German journalist . He was editor-in-chief of Focus magazine until the end of 2012 and co-editor with Helmut Markwort from the beginning of 2013 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Baur began his journalistic career from 1977 to 1979 as a trainee at Münchner Merkur , where he then worked as an editor until 1982. From 1982 to 1985 Baur worked as an editor at Gong Verlag . From 1985 to 1991 he was editor-in-chief and program manager at Radio Gong 2000 in Munich. After the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR and the subsequent establishment of German unity , he was involved in the rebuilding of the Schweriner Volkszeitung in 1991 and 1992 , which was then taken over by Burda-Verlag . From 1992 Baur was actively involved in building up the Focus, which was to be positioned as a counterpart to the news magazine Der Spiegel . From 1993 to 2004 he worked there as deputy editor-in-chief. From 2004 Baur was editor-in-chief of the magazine, initially together with Helmut Markwort and Wolfram Weimer , from July 2011 as sole editor-in-chief. From the beginning of 2013 he was Focus editor together with Markwort.

Baur had been married since 1989 and had a daughter.

He died on September 8, 2018 at Lake Starnberg .
