Life
Ulla-Lena Lundberg grew up as the child of a pastor's family on Kökar. Lundberg began to write as a teenager and published her experiences of stays as an exchange student in the USA and as a student in Japan . She condensed a four-month stay in Siberia in 1993 into an autobiographical travel report.
In 1985 she finished her studies at the Åbo Akademi with the diploma thesis Franciskus i Kökar on the settlement of Kökar. In 1986/87 she was invited to the University of Minnesota as a lecturer and writer in residence .
Lundberg was awarded the Runeberg Prize in 1998 for Regn and the Finlandia Prize in 2012 for Is , for which she had been nominated three times, in 1987 with Sand , 1989 with Leo and 2001 with Marsipan soldiers . In 1990 she was awarded the Thank You-for-the-Book medal for Leo . The Åbo Akademi awarded her an honorary doctorate in 1993.
