Ulla Burchardt

Ursula "Ulla" Burchardt (born April 22, 1954 in Dortmund ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She is a lecturer at TU Dortmund University and works as a science and policy advisor. From 1990 to 2013 she was a directly elected member of the German Bundestag. From 2005 to 2013 she was Chair of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment. In 2014 she was elected to the TU Berlin Board of Trustees.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1972, Ulla Burchardt completed a degree in pedagogy , social sciences and psychology in Bochum and Bielefeld , which she completed in 1977 as a qualified pedagogue. She then worked as a youth education advisor until 1978 and since 1979 as an advisor in adult education.

Ulla Burchardt lives in Dortmund and Berlin and has two daughters.

Political party

She has been a member of the SPD since 1976. She belongs to the education forum of the SPD party executive as well as the science forums of the federal SPD and NRW-SPD.

From 1990 to 2013 and as the first woman from Dortmund, Ulla Burchardt was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1998 to 2002 she was chairwoman of the cross-sectional group on sustainable development of the SPD parliamentary group . From 1998 to 2005 she was deputy chair of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment . From November 2005 she chaired this committee. Ulla Burchardt was also chairwoman of the German-Italian parliamentary group for more than ten years.

Until 1998, Ulla Burchardt was directly elected to the German Bundestag in the constituency of Dortmund III . After the constituency reform, she won her mandate in the newly formed constituency of Dortmund II in 2002 . In the 2005 Bundestag election she received 57.9% of the first votes and was re-elected as a member of the German Bundestag. She was able to defend the direct mandate of her constituency in the 2009 Bundestag election with 42.4% of the votes cast. In the summer of 2011, Burchardt announced that he would no longer run for another legislative period in the Bundestag. For the 2013 federal election , Burchardt did not run again.

The Berghofen Tunnel (B236n) in Dortmund is popularly known as the "Ulla Tunnel" because of the efforts of the Bundestag member Burchardt to build this underpass. Ulla Burchardt is also a tunnel sponsor.
