Ulla Oster

Ulla Oster (born February 11, 1956 in Hemer ; actually Ulrike Oster ) is a German jazz musician (double bass, composition)

After completing his studies at the Cologne University of Music (majoring in piano), Oster has been working in various jazz and art rock bands since 1980 (F, Cologne Connection, Orijinal, Norbert Stein Pata Orchester, United Women's Orchestra , Wollie Kaiser Timeghost, Christina Fuchs Quartet and many more). Oster has been working on electronic sound processing since 1994 and has mainly (ironically) dealt with pop songs in her own projects ( Beyond Janis , Abaptations , What's New? ). She also played with Sam Rivers , Doug Hammond , Terri Lyne Carrington , Uwe Kropinski , Jaki Liebezeit , Willi Kellers , Thomas Heberer, Reiner Winterschladen , Ekkehard Jost , Roberto di Gioia , Georg Ruby and Peter Less . She has completed international tours and festival appearances (including Moers Festival , Leverkusener Jazztage , Jazz Festival Viersen , Jazz an der Donau Vilshofen , Grenoble Jazz Festival , Antwerp, Vienna, St. Petersburg).

Oster composes for different formats (from duo to big band) and writes theater and film music (including Die Schamlosen . ZDF, Horst Sczerba). She is a prizewinner in the category “Composition for Jazz Orchestra / Big Band” in the context of the jazz art competition 2001/2002 as well as in the competition 2003/2004.
