The bushy to upright growing rose 'Ulmer Münster' forms a compact, strong shrub with long, strong shoots. The rose plant is about 80 cm to 150 cm high and about 80 cm wide. The individual, sometimes arranged in umbels , blood-red colored flowers made up of 35 slightly curved petals form a large, double flower. The flowers are 10 to 12 cm in size, rainproof and form a lush autumn flora. The rose has large, dark green, shiny leaves. It blooms continuously from June to autumn and, under optimal conditions, is largely resistant to the well-known rose diseases powdery mildew and star soot . The rose is characterized by a delicate, fruity scent of wild roses . It thrives on sandy to loamy soils in sunny to partially shaded locations.

The rose 'Ulmer Münster' is suitable as a solitary plant , for planting flower beds and is also used in floristry . The remontant rose is extremely hardy ( USDA climate zone 6b and warmer).

The rose variety is in many Rosarien and gardens of the world, including in the Rosarium Petrović , in San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, in the mountain park Wilhelmshöhe , the Rosarium Uetersen in German Rosarium Dortmund and in the newly designed rose garden Ulm shown.

Naming

Originally, a company in Ulm wanted to have the rose named in honor of its hometown on the occasion of a company anniversary. However, this project was not implemented in this form for cost reasons. In spite of this, Kordes named the new cultivation of a shrub rose in 1982 after the largest Protestant church in Germany with the highest church tower in the world, after the Ulm Minster .
