Ulrich Barth

Ulrich Barth (born September 14, 1945 in Karlsruhe ) is a German Protestant theologian , religious philosopher and university professor.

Career

After studying church music , theology and philosophy in Karlsruhe , Heidelberg and Göttingen , Barth received his doctorate in Göttingen in 1982 . His most important teachers were the theologian Hans-Walter Schütte and the philosopher Wolfgang Wieland . In 1990 he completed his habilitation . He then worked as a DFG employee at the Schleiermacher Research Center in Kiel and later provided assistants in Munich and Mainz. From 1992–1993 he held a visiting professorship in Hamburg before he was appointed to the chair for dogmatics and religious philosophy at the theological faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in 1993 . Barth was a founding member of the Schleiermacher Society, which was founded in 1996 and was its first chairman until 2012. Since his retirement in 2010, he has been a senior professor at the Theological Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin .

His research interests include philosophy and theology of the Enlightenment , German idealism , philosophy of religion and - sociology , History of Modern Theology, Religion in the Modern , philosophy of science , dogmatism.

Since the 1970s he has also held a position as organist and cantor at St. Albani in Göttingen. Barth lives in Halle (Saale) . Since 2005 he has also been the Ephorus of the Silesian Konvikt in Halle (Saale).
