Ulrich Einsle

Ulrich Einsle (born April 24, 1935 in Konstanz , † December 24, 1996 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German limnologist .

Life

Einsle passed his Abitur in 1954 at the Alexander von Humboldt Gymnasium in Konstanz . There his biology teacher Friedrich Kiefer won him over to study copepods and so he studied biology, chemistry and sport at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . As a doctoral student he worked at what was then the Institute for Research on Lake Constance in Konstanz and received his doctorate in 1963 with a dissertation on the genus Cyclops in Lake Constance.

From 1963 to 1966 he worked as a scholarship holder of the German Research Foundation with Friedrich Kiefer and then became an employee of the city of Konstanz with a position at the “Institute for Lake Constance Research ”. After it was merged with the State Institute for Environmental Protection (LfU) in Langenargen in 1970, Einsle was taken over into the State Service and from 1982 was head of the LfU's Konstanz-Staad branch. From 1995 he was based in Langenargen.

Einsle's scientific focus was on the taxonomy , systematics and ecology of the cyclopoids. Between 1959 and 1996 he published numerous papers on this subject.

In addition to taxonomic aspects, Einsle also devoted himself to ecological questions, including the influence of daily periodicity on the speed of development of some Cyclops species. He also demonstrated the seasonal occurrence of the pelagic copepods, their vertical and horizontal distribution and their daily migrations in Lake Constance Upper and Lower Lake , Gnadensee and Rhine Lake . In addition to Lake Constance, he also devoted himself to the plankton of other inland waters, such as the beech lakes near Radolfzell or in Mindelsee .

Einsle also worked on the monitoring programs of the International Water Protection Commission for Lake Constance . From 1975 to 1980 he was city councilor in Konstanz and from 1977 to 1996 he was the nature conservation officer of the district of Konstanz .
