Ulrich Hadding

Ulrich Hadding (born January 10, 1937 in Kassel ; † December 8, 2018 in Düsseldorf ) was a German physician and microbiologist .

Hadding studied human medicine in Bonn, Marburg and Munich and received his doctorate in 1963. In 1971 he qualified as a professor for medical microbiology at the University of Mainz . As a DFG scholar, he worked from 1965 to 1967 at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in California on the protein chemistry of the complement system .

From 1988 to 2002 Ulrich Hadding held the chair for medical microbiology and virology at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU). From 1992 to 1995 he was managing director of the Biological-Medical Research Center (BMFZ) at the University of Düsseldorf, which annually awards the Ulrich Hadding Research Prize, endowed with 5,000 euros, on the occasion of his retirement . In 1995 Hadding took over the provisional management of the Medical Institute for Environmental Hygiene at HHU until 1997. From 1995 to 1998 he was on the clinical board of directors of the medical facilities at HHU.

The focus of his work was the research of the immune defense and the virulence of pathogens , the elucidation of the functions of the complement system and interferon- mediated immunity as well as the characterization of pathogens such as mycoplasma and toxoplasma .

In 1999 Hadding received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

He was an honorary member of the Friends of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and since December 6, 2007 a member of the University Council of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf for a period of five years. This consists of eight personalities from science and business, three internal (emeritus professors from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf) and five external.

The swimmer Annette Hadding is his daughter.
