Ulrich von Barnekow

Ulrich Karl Adolf Freiherr von Barnekow (born September 8, 1816 in Potsdam , † February 16, 1883 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was a Prussian major general and most recently commander of the 6th Cavalry Brigade and an honorary citizen of Züllichau .

Life

His parents were the major in the 1st Guards Regiment on foot and bearers of the Iron Cross 2nd class , Adolf Friedrich von Barnekow (* October 5, 1784 - December 1, 1817) and his wife Ida Clementine Auguste, née von Beyer ( † August 16, 1823).

Career

He became a cadet in Potsdam on April 13, 1827 and joined the cadets in Berlin on August 18, 1830 as a pensioner . From there he returned home on August 16, 1831 and in the same year to the pension institution in Luckau , then in 1833 he went to the military pre-school in Erfurt .

On July 11, 1835, he joined the 7th Cuirassier Regiment as a cuirassier . There he was promoted to portepeef ensign on November 12, 1835, and to second lieutenant on March 10, 1837. From November 11 to December 15, 1850 he was then appointed leader of the replacement squadron and from December 15 to February 1851 as a leader in the 1st squadron. Promoted to Premier Lieutenant on March 10, 1851, he joined the 27th Landwehr Regiment on December 16, 1851. There he was squadron leader of the 1st battalion until September 30, 1852. Subsequently, on October 1, 1852, he joined the 7th Heavy Landwehr-Reiter-Regiment, where he was squadron leader until April 13, 1858. In the period from 1853 to 1854 he had accepted a mandate to the second chamber with the approval of the king, and he was promoted to Rittmeister on May 2, 1854.

He was transferred to the 7th Cuirassier Regiment on April 14, 1858, as a squadron chief. From there he came on May 12, 1860 as a squadron leader in the 3rd Combined Uhlan Regiment, on July 1, 1860 he was transferred to the 11th Uhlan Regiment as squadron chief . There he was appointed major and regular staff officer on May 13, 1861.

During the German-Danish War of 1864 he was coastal protection commander and commandant of the headquarters in Gravenstein, and he also made the transition to Alsen . For this he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class with swords on August 14, 1864 .

Then he was on May 15, 1866 commander of the 10th Uhlan Regiment, there he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 8, 1866. During the German War he fought at Königgrätz and the battles at Tobitschau, Abtsdorf and Zwittau. For this he received the Order of the Red Eagle 3rd Class with Swords on September 20, 1866 . He was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1868 and on January 21, 1869 the Cross of Honor 2nd Class with Swords of the House Order of Hohenzollern .

During the Franco-German War he fought at Wörth , Sedan , Orleans , Beaugency and the battles at Steinburg, Artenay, Potoy, Allons, Chartres, Coulmiers, Bonneval, Belleme and Chanteloup. For this he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class on September 8, 1870 , and the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross 2nd Class on December 24, 1870 .

On January 27, 1871, he received honorary citizenship of the city of Züllichau . On May 23, 1871, he was transferred to the 6th Cavalry Brigade as commander and was assigned à la suite of the 10th Uhlan Regiment. There he was appointed major general on March 22, 1873. On August 15, 1874, he was then with pension for grabs asked, and he got the Red Eagle 2nd Class with Oak Leaves and Swords . He died on February 16, 1883 in Brandenburg an der Havel.
