Ulrich Loewenheim

Ulrich Loewenheim (born May 30, 1934 in Göttingen ) is a German legal scholar . He is emeritus at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . His research focus is on private law, comparative law, as well as copyright and competition law.

Life

From 1955 Loewenheim studied law, history and art history at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he graduated in 1961 with the first state examination in law. In 1962 he also received his doctorate in Frankfurt with the thesis Incitement by Failure . After the second state examination in 1965, he was a research assistant in Frankfurt until 1968. This was followed by a stay abroad until 1969 at the University of California, Berkeley and Georgetown University . In 1969 he completed his habilitation with Heinrich Kronstein in Frankfurt with trademark and restraint of competition and received venia legendi for civil law , commercial and economic law , international private law and comparative law .

From 1977 to 1999 he was a judge at the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt am Main . He has been visiting professor at the University of Berkeley (1975, 1977, 1979, 1987, 1989, 1993), the University of Tokyo (1981), the University of Kyoto (1981), the Thammasat University (1981, 1983, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002), the University of Manila (1983), the National University of Singapore (1983), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , the University of Florida (1992, 1993, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2010, 2011), the Vanderbilt University (1993) and Columbia University (1996).
