Ulrich Lohmar

Ulrich Lohmar (born April 30, 1928 in Engelskirchen , Rhineland , † November 28, 1991 in Bonn ) was a German social and political scientist and education politician of the SPD .

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Lohmar studied social sciences and law in Cologne , Munich and Hamburg . After completing his studies, he was a senior employee of the sociologist Helmut Schelsky at the Academy for Community Economy in Hamburg . In 1954 he became editor-in-chief of the SPD magazine Die Neue Gesellschaft . Later he was Professor of Political Science at the University of Paderborn .

Political party

Lohmar was a member of the SPD, in which he belonged to the specialist committees for cultural policy, program issues and security policy in the party executive. From 1952 to 1955 he was federal chairman of the Socialist German Student Union .

MP

Lohmar was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1976 . In the third legislative period (1957–1961) he was the third youngest member of the Bundestag after Holger Börner and Gerhard Stoltenberg . From 1961 to 1965 he was deputy chairman of the Bundestag Committee for Cultural Policy and Journalism , from 1965 to 1969 Chairman of the Bundestag Committee for Science, Cultural Policy and Journalism , from 1969 to 1972 Chairman of the Bundestag Committee for Education and Science and then until 1976 Chairman of the Bundestag Committee for Research and Science Technology .
