Heinz Kluth (born July 18, 1921 in Lychen , Uckermark , † December 28, 1977 in Hamburg ) was a German sociologist .

Life

After studying sociology , history, economics and philosophy in Berlin (1946-49 Humboldt University of Berlin , 1949-52 at the Free University with Alfred Vierkandt , Gottfried Eisermann , Hans-Joachim Lieber and Otto Stammer ) received his doctorate from the latter in 1952 Dr. phil. (Dissertation: The unemployed young person in his ties to the social environment outside of the family ).

1952–53 he worked as assistant to Helmut Schelsky at the Hamburg Academy for Community Economics and then from 1953–56 at the Department of Sociology at the University of Hamburg . In 1956 he qualified as a professor there with the study of social prestige and social status of sociology - with strong strukturfunktionalistischem approach " social prestige " it is for more "attributed" ( ascribed ), social status rather "acquired" ( Achieved ).

For Heinz Kluth, " sociology " was an empirical and analytical subject. He was based on a rather Paretian image of man - probably conveyed through Eisermann - according to which man could only gain an identity for himself through a certain social integration . Empirically, in the young Federal Republic of Germany, he was one of the pioneers of technology , industrial and business sociology .

In Hamburg he worked as a full professor from 1961 until his death from cancer in 1977. As an academic teacher he was liberal, with a broad horizon and rich in material; and he was taking academic exams on his deathbed.

With the economic crisis of the 1990s, his studies of unemployment and job difficulties among young people, which he had forgotten during the “ economic miracle ”, became fruitful again.
