Ulrich Rüdiger (archaeologist)

Ulrich Heinz Rüdiger (born September 12, 1934 in Altona adElbe ; † August 21, 1970 at Roccanova ( Potenza )) was a German classical archaeologist .

Ulrich Rüdiger, son of the literary scholar Horst Rüdiger , attended school in Florence and Merano and passed the school leaving examination in Merano in 1952. From the winter semester 1952/53 he studied classical archeology, Greek and art history at the University of Freiburg . From the winter semester 1953/54 to the winter semester 1954/55 he studied in Munich , in the summer semester 1955 in Heidelberg . For the winter semester 1955/56 he returned to Freiburg, where he worked with Walter-Herwig Schuchhardt in 1960 with the Askoi work . A doctorate was awarded to the development and importance of a vessel shape . After graduating, he became an assistant in the Rome department of the German Archaeological Institute . He led the excavations of the German Archaeological Institute in Basilicata . He then became a professor at the University of Urbino , where he taught Italian prehistory. Rüdiger dealt with ancient ceramics, the Anaglypha Hadriani and specialist history, especially with Johann Joachim Winckelmann . He died in a car accident.
