Ulrich "Uli" Staiger (born October 30, 1966 in Albstadt-Tailfingen , Baden-Württemberg ) is a German master photographer , photo technician and non-fiction author .

Life

After graduating from high school, he trained as a photographer at the Weber photo studio in Haigerloch from 1987 to 1990 . After completing his training, he was employed in his training company for another year. After this position he went to the United States (in New York and New Jersey ) for a year and a half to work , among other things, as an assistant to Neil Molinaro . After returning to Germany, he worked as a freelance photographer in Berlin.

In 1996 Staiger began studying to become a master photographer and photo technician at the technical college for photo and media technology in Potsdam, which he successfully completed in 1998. In the same year he opened his own photo studio in Berlin called “die lichtgestaltung”.

Professionally, Staiger originally worked as a photographer on the subjects of landscape and studio photography, probably also because of his trips to Chile, Argentina and North America.

He has been involved in digital image processing since his studies. From 1996 mainly with the software Adobe Photoshop , with which he has been working since version 3.05, from 2006 he expanded his software portfolio with the 3D graphics software Cinema 4D . Today he specializes in the subject of " Computer Generated Imagery ". His unusual perspective on everyday things and photographing individual parts of the picture independently of one another in order to then combine them into a new whole is one of his favorite disciplines today. Staiger also has a weakness for good design: simple and functional. The proximity to the surrealism of the 1930s to 1950s results from this inevitably.

In addition to his books, Staiger also writes for German and English-language magazines such as Foto Hits , Photographie , Computerfoto , Digital PHOTO , DOCMA and ProfiFoto .

In 2014 Uli Staiger received the “Photographer of the Year” award.
