Ulrich Steidl

Ulrich Steidl (also: Uli Steidl ; born March 6, 1972 in Bad Windsheim ) is a German long-distance runner who specializes in marathons and mountain running .

Steidl made his international appearance for the first time with 3rd place at the 1990 World Mountain Running Championships in Telfes, Austria in the junior class. The following year, Steidl won the junior world championship in Zermatt .

In 1995 and 1997 he was German runner-up in mountain running and in 1995 also won the team title with the SSC Hanau-Rodenbach team. In 1997 he was third with the team.

His best time as a marathon runner was on April 9, 2000, finishing eighth in the Pyongyang Marathon with 2:13:56 h. The athlete, who lives in the United States, is the record winner of the Vancouver Marathon , which he won five times in a row from 2000 to 2004.

In spring 2007 he finished twelfth both in the Boston Marathon , in which a storm severely affected the runners' times, in 2:19:54 h and shortly afterwards in the Düsseldorf Marathon in 2:19:47 h. Although he missed the qualifying time of 2:18:00 h, he was nominated for the 2007 World Athletics Championships in Osaka, as the Boston Marathon is one of the World Marathon Majors and you have a top 20 place in one of these races also meets the World Championship standard.

In the 2007 World Athletics Championships marathon , he finished 37th out of 57 runners who finished the race in 2:30:03 h in humid heat and then suffered a circulatory collapse.

Ulrich Steidl starts for the SSC Hanau-Rodenbach. He lives in Seattle with his wife Trisha . He has currently given up his job as a chemistry teacher to devote himself to sport. He coaches the University of Seattle 's athletics team.
