Ulrich Weber (Manager)

Ulrich Weber (born March 14, 1950 in Krefeld ) is a German manager . From 2009 to 2017 he was a member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Bahn .

Life

After studying law, he first worked as a lawyer in Krefeld. From 1984 to 1987 he worked for Ruhrkohle AG in Essen . From 1987 to 1990 he worked for the Westfälische Berggewerkschaftskasse , whose managing director he became in 1989. At the same time he was chancellor of the technical college of mining in Bochum in 1987/88 . In 1990 he moved to Deutsche Montan Technologie GmbH Bochum / Essen, where he was managing director until 1993.

Between 1993 and 1998 Ulrich Weber worked as a member of the board and labor director for Cubis AG in Essen, from 1997 as its deputy chairman. From 1998 to 2001 Weber was a member of the board and labor director of RWE Rheinbraun AG in Cologne . In 2001 Weber was appointed a member of the Board of Management and Labor Director of RAG Aktiengesellschaft in Essen, and since 2006 he has held this position in the successor company Evonik Industries AG . He was also a member of the board of the RAG-Stiftung from 2007 to 2009 .

On May 13, 2009 , he was asked by the then DB supervisory board chairman Werner Müller whether he wanted to become head of personnel at Deutsche Bahn. Since July 1, 2009, Ulrich Weber has been Chief Human Resources Officer at Deutsche Bahn AG and DB Mobility Logistics AG .

On September 18, 2013, the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn Webers extended the expiring contract on July 1, 2014 to March 31, 2017. According to his own statements from the end of 2013, he will probably retire afterwards. In 2014 and 2015, he led the company's negotiations with the German Train Drivers Union . According to information from May 2015, he wanted to resign after the collective bargaining negotiations with the German Train Drivers Union. According to information from October 2016, Weber wanted to bring the ongoing collective bargaining to an end and then leave the board. On December 14, 2016, the DB Supervisory Board extended Weber's contract, which was due to expire in spring 2017, to the end of 2018. He also took on the legal and data protection areas. In July 2017 it was announced that he would be stepping down at the end of the year. He told executives that his successor as HR director should be there from the start when the management team was rebuilt. Furthermore, his successor should have enough time to prepare for the collective bargaining round that will begin at the end of 2018.

He was succeeded by Martin Seiler , who had previously been Head of Human Resources at Deutsche Telekom .
