Ulrich Weiß (Benedictine)

Ulrich Weiß (also Weis or Weiss ; born November 1, 1713 in Augsburg ; † June 4, 1763 in the Irsee Monastery ) was a German Benedictine priest .

Life

Weiß attended grammar school in Augsburg. In 1728 he joined the imperial abbey of Irsee . He made his profession on November 13, 1729 . After studying in Irsee, he was sent to the University of Salzburg from 1735 to 1737 . There he completed theological and legal studies. During his time in Salzburg he was ordained a priest on November 21, 1736 .

Weiss returned to the Irsee Abbey in 1738. There he became a professor of philosophy and mathematics. In 1744 he received from Anselm Desing a call to reform the studies at the planned knight academy in Prague. However, due to the turmoil of the war, he had to return to Irssee in 1745. Here he became professor of philosophy and director of studies. He was also at times pastor of the Irsee market .

White wrote various pieces of music and was a member of several scientific societies.
