Ulrik Kirkely

Ulrik Kirkely Hansen (born January 5, 1972 ) is a Danish handball coach and former handball player .

He last played for GOG Svendborg TGI . He was player-coach at Tved and assistant coach at Faaborg HK and coach at GOG Svendborg TGI and Team Sydhavsøerne .

From January 2010, Kirkely coached the men's national handball team of Bahrain . With this he achieved participation in the 2011 World Cup ; Bahrain took part in a handball world championship for the first time . Due to the political unrest in Bahrain , he resigned from office in May 2011. From the 2011/12 season he coached the Danish first division club KIF Vejen . In November 2011, Kirkely ended his coaching activity at KIF Vejen and took over the Saudi Arabian men's national handball team . Then he was again coach of the Bahraini national team. On September 1, 2012, he also took over the post of co-trainer for the Danish women's national handball team . He ended this engagement in January 2015. In February 2015, he took over the coaching position of the Danish first division club Randers HK . In the 2015/16 season he coached HC Odense . After Jan Pytlick took over as coach from Odense in the summer of 2016, Kirkely became assistant coach. In addition, in 2016 he took over the coaching position of the Japanese women's national handball team . After the 2016/17 season, Kirkely retired from Odense. He has been training Odense Håndbold again since the 2020/21 season. Until the Summer Olympics in Tokyo he will continue to act as national coach of the Japanese selection.

Before taking over the coaching position in Bahrain, he was production manager at SvendborgTryk.
