Ulrike Dotzer

Ulrike Dotzer (* 1961 in Kiel ) is a German journalist and television editor. She heads the ARTE department of Norddeutscher Rundfunk .

Education and career

After graduating from high school, Dotzer did a job in Montreal / Québec , then she studied Eastern European history, Middle and modern history as well as philosophy and political science in Kiel and Göttingen. From 1984 to 1986 she volunteered at Kieler Nachrichten , where she also worked as an editor until 1988. From 1989 to 1997 she was a reporter for the Hamburger Abendblatt . The time immediately after the fall of the Wall she experienced in Leipzig and Schwerin in the editorial offices of the Leipziger Tageblatt and the Norddeutsche Zeitung .

In 1990 and 1991, she delivered reports from Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for Axel Springer Verlag on the change in East Germany. Back in Hamburg she worked as an editor and reporter in the politics department of the Abendblatt until 1997 .

In 1997 Dotzer switched to Norddeutscher Rundfunk. There she initially worked as a consultant to the artistic director Jobst Plog . Since 2001 she has headed the Arte department of the NDR in Hamburg. Today she develops and is responsible for documentaries and themed evenings with an international focus for the European cultural channel. Among other things, she was responsible for the docu-dramas "The Night of the Great Flood" (directed by Raymond Ley , German TV Prize 2006) and "14 Diaries of the First World War" (directed by Jan Peter , screenplay by Yury Winterberg , Robert Geisendörfer Prize 2014) .

The German-French Journalist Award 2017 went to the documentary, which she edited, “Stille Retter. Survival in occupied France ”(Director: Christian Frey , Author: Susanne Wittek ).

Positions and Awards

In 1988 she received the reportage award from the Academy for Journalism in Hamburg. She has been a mentor in the DJV's mentoring program since 2013 . In 2014 she became a member of the Board of Trustees and since 2016 she has been a member of the Executive Board of the Franco-German Society.

Private

Ulrike Dotzer has two sons.
