Ulrike Elsdörfer

Ulrike Elsdörfer (born October 1, 1953 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German Protestant theologian, religious scholar, ethnologist and pastoral psychologist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Frankfurt / Main in 1972 , Ulrike Elsdörfer began studying theology and philosophy in Tübingen and Mainz ; she also studied at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute . She then did a doctorate in Dr. phil. at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt / Main on a topic of humanistic psychology . From 2011 to 2014 she studied ethnology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt / Main.

2018 she received her doctorate at the Philosophical and Theological College St. Georgen, Frankfurt / Main, the PhD on the topic: Spiritual Counseling in diversity. Access to spiritual counseling skills in Asia.

She is Associate Professor at North West University, Potchefstroom Campus, Faculty of Theology, Unit Public Practical Theology and Civil Society, South Africa , was pastor in hospital chaplaincy and was active in pastoral care training in the Evangelical Church . She is a supervisor and consultant and cooperates as an independent scientist with various academic institutions.

From 2006 to 2013 she was the representative for intercultural matters of the German Society for Pastoral Psychology (DGfP), a professional association for the training and further education of supervisors within the Christian churches; she is a member of the International Council on Pastoral Care and Counseling (ICPCC), and she was the executive committee of the ICPCC from 2011 to 2017. She was program director of the 11th congress of the International Council on Pastoral Care and Counseling (ICPCC) in Malacca / Malaysia, April 4-10. August 2019, on the topic: Learning to serve people of other cultures.

She works with the Frobenius Society for Social Anthropology, Frankfurt am Main, and she is a member of SIPCC (Gesellschaft für Interkulturelle Seelsorge - Society for Intercultural Pastoral Care and Counseling),

She is committed to intercultural exchange in different continents. It promotes the development of advisory and social support work in multi-religious concepts. This includes hospital pastoral care , emergency pastoral care and advice in migration contexts.

She studied abroad at several universities in Africa, and participated and lectured at conferences and congresses in India, Japan, Brazil, Europe (Switzerland) and New Zealand.

Ulrike Elsdörfer held teaching positions at the University of Heidelberg and was a practical religious studies assistant at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . She taught on intercultural aspects of medicine and nursing at the Medical Faculty of the University of Würzburg and the Agaplesion Clinics, Frankfurt am Main.

Since August 2018 she has been involved in a research project: Advice in the migration context Europe - Africa at North West University, South Africa.

She is co-editor of a scientific publication series Pastoral Care and Spiritual Healing - Spiritualität interkulturell

She is married to Helmut A. Elsdörfer and has three grown children.
