Ulrike Mundt (* 1976 in Wismar ) is a German artist. Her main focus is the creation of mechanical sculptures, kinetic objects and sound objects.

Life

Ulrike Mundt was born in Wismar in 1976 . After studying at the Caspar David Friedrich Institute at the University of Greifswald , she began to study fine arts between 2000 and 2002 at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Arnhem and at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam . From 2003 to 2005 she pursued a master’s degree in sculpture at the University of Fine Arts in Dresden and then completed her master’s degree with Monika Brandmeier . In 2007 she also completed this degree. She also curated between 2006 and 2009 in the Modul-Kunstraum in Dresden with Daniel Rode. Since then, Ulrike Mundt has been working as a freelance artist in Dresden and has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. From 2018 to the end of 2019 she was a member of the Dresdener produenten | gallery.

art

Mundt's oeuvre includes mechanical sculptures and sculptures, kinetics , sound objects, but also reliefs and wall objects.

Her works are often interactive works of art that the viewer can deal with directly. As a result, Ulrike Mundt's art plays not only with visual perception, but also with the audience's sense of hearing and touch. Their design language is relatively minimalist and clean. The outwardly simple shape is often deceptive, however, because the inner workings of many objects are extremely complicated.

The artist also designs sound objects that are equipped with loudspeakers and microphones and that generate a wide variety of noises. On the other hand, there are pan flute-like wall objects, which, in contrast, do not fulfill their purpose of generating sound. In the production of her objects, the artist experiments with a wide variety of materials such as steel, rubber, wood, clay, tiles, cement, etc.

Mundt "[...] investigates [...] how far an object can move away from the object before it becomes a non-thing." She self-ironically questions the status of the artist, who is completely free in his work. In addition, her work plays humorously and ironically with symbols of power and authority.
