Ulrike Peter

Ulrike Peter (born December 31, 1966 in Schwerin ) is a German numismatist .

Ulrike Peter studied from 1985 to 1990 at the Lomonossow University in Moscow . This was followed in 1990 by a doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Here it was in 1994 with the work Political and economic background to the coinage of Thracian dynasties (5th-3rd century. BC.) PhD . Since 1992 she has worked as a research assistant alongside Edith Schönert-Geiß for the Corpuswerk Greek Mint at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW). From 1998 until the expiry after more than 120 years in 2003, Peter succeeded Schönert-Geiß as head of the Greek Mint. In 1999 she stayed in Oxford as the holder of a Colin Kraay scholarship . From 1999 to 2002 she also coordinated the Balkan Initiative of Berlin and Brandenburg Science, which is part of the Academy . Since 2007 Peter has been a research associate on the BBAW's Census of Antique Works of Art and Architecture Known in the Renaissance project . Between 2009 and 2012 she coordinated the research network Translatio nummorum - The perception of classical antiquity via ancient coins by antiquaries in the Renaissance, funded by the Ministry of Education . Since 2013 she has been leading the Corpus Nummorum Online project funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft with Bernhard Weisser from the Münzkabinett Berlin .

Peter's research focuses on the numismatics of ancient Thrace and the reception of ancient coins in the Renaissance . She is a member of the Topoi Cluster of Excellence . She is the specialist representative of the academies in the Numismatic Commission of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany . She wrote almost 40 articles for the New Pauly .
