Ulrike von Hirschhausen

Ulrike von Hirschhausen (born January 3, 1964 in Bombay , India ) is a German historian and professor at the University of Rostock .

Life

From 1986 to 1990, after completing an apprenticeship in bookselling, she studied history and German at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and at Stanford University / USA, where she obtained her MA in 1990 . At the University of Tübingen she received her doctorate in 1996 with a thesis on the Deutsche Zeitung 1847-1850 supervised by Dieter Langewiesche . In 1997 she was awarded the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Prize for her dissertation. From 1997 to 2002 she was a lecturer in European history at the University of Latvia and the Latvian Academy of Culture in Riga . In 2005 he completed his habilitation at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . From 2005 to 2008 she was professor at the Universities of Leipzig and Bielefeld . In the H-Soz-u-Kult competition “The historical book of the year” in the category of European history, the habilitation thesis took 7th place in 2007 and 4th place in 2008. From 2006 to 2010 she headed the research project “Empires. Opportunities and crises of multiethnic empires in the 19th and early 20th centuries ”at the University of Hamburg . Since 2010 she has been W3 Professor for European and Modern History of the 19th and 20th Centuries at the University of Rostock. Her main research interests are the empires in modern times, colonialism and comparative urban history .
