Ultimate Beastmaster is an American competitive game show that appeared on the video-on-demand service Netflix on February 24, 2017 . It consists of three seasons of 10 episodes each (1st and 2nd season) and 9 episodes (3rd season), each of which was published simultaneously worldwide on Netflix. The first season of the show was filmed in Santa Clarita , California, over an eight night period.

The show is moderated by Sylvester Stallone . The show differs from other competitive shows in that it not only features international talent, but also has six local versions, each with their own commentators. There is a local German version for the first season with Luke Mockridge and Hans Sarpei as commentators. In the second season there were neither athletes nor commentators from Germany. Micky Beisenherz and Jeannine Michaelsen are the German hosts for the third season .

concept

In each episode there are twelve opponents (two from six countries each) who have to complete an obstacle course called "the beast". The one who has the most points at the end of the program wins the program and is crowned with the title "Beastmaster". Each of the "Beastmasters" from the nine episodes will go on the final parkour in the 10th episode to become the ultimate "Beastmaster".

The obstacle course called "the beast" is divided into four stages. The participants with the highest scores after each level advance, while those with the lowest scores are eliminated. Points can be collected in levels 1 to 3. In the event of a tie, the candidate with the fastest time will be chosen. In levels 1 to 3, "the beast" is each equipped with different obstacles. The obstacles hang over a mass of red-tinted water known as "beast blood" and are housed in a huge steel frame that takes the shape of a large animal. A participant's attempt is deemed to have failed if all four limbs are immersed in the animal blood. Failure ends the attempt in the current level, but does not result in any penalties - except for "The Hard Way" in level 3, where bonus points can be gained by completing additional challenges, but points are deducted if they fail.

All twelve participants take part in level 1. The eight best competitors qualify for the next level. At the end of the second level, only five opponents can move on to the next round. Only the two best of the five candidates in level 3 make it to the last level. In level 4, the points are brought back to 0 and the two best participants deliver a head-to-head race on the Power Source, a 24-meter-high climbing wall.

In season 3, the concept was renewed, as nine states now participate. There are only nine episodes left. In the first three episodes, a candidate from each country competes, the best two athletes per episode go to the first semifinals. This takes place in episode 4, the best three participants go to the final. The candidates for the second semi-final in episode 8 are sought in episodes 5 to 7. In the semifinals, the candidates can use a bonus life if they fail in parkour. The final takes place in the ninth episode.

Charisma

For the show, six country-specific versions were produced for each season, each with its own commentator. In the first season the USA , Brazil , South Korea , Mexico , Germany and Japan have their own version, in the second season it is the USA , Spain , France , Italy , China and India . In the third season, nine instead of six nations will compete for the first time. In the version of the respective country, the own country representatives are presented in more detail.

For each of the six local versions, a separate pair of commentators report on the events in the respective national language. The foreign commentators can, however, also be seen in every local version, the commentary of which is shown with subtitles. When a candidate successfully completes a course, the reactions of all commentators are shown. Since all commentator boxes are lined up next to each other, commentators can easily visit the booth of another couple of commentators.
