occupation

Un Mundo Misterioso ( German  "Puzzling World" ) is the second feature film by the Argentinian film director and screenwriter Rodrigo Moreno from 2011. The film tells the story of Boris, played by Esteban Bigliardi , who is left for a while by his girlfriend and then himself have to find their way around the world alone. At the end of the film, he and his girlfriend find each other again. Un Mondo Misterioso was performed in the competition at the 61st Berlinale in February 2011, but received mostly negative reviews.

action

At the beginning of the film, which is set in Buenos Aires , Boris and Ana lie in bed together in the morning and she tells him that they should separate for a while. He only reacts to this by asking how much time you mean and repeats this question several times. Boris moves into a hotel and now has to find his way around life on his own. He buys an old car built in Romania, but it keeps causing technical problems. Through an old friend from his school days, he ends up in a circle of friends at whose party he is rather confused and does not really belong. Towards morning he kisses Odette before she and the other friends leave for Montevideo ( Uruguay ), where they want to spend New Year's Eve and New Year together. Boris should follow them. His car broke down badly, so he took it to a repair shop, and Boris started driving the bus, following women on the street. The first goes to her boyfriend, the second he follows into a bar and then into a casino . Both spend the night in his hotel room. Boris then leaves for Uruguay. There, however, nobody picks him up from the port, so he returns and spends New Year's Eve with his mechanic. When his car is working again, he drives home to Ana. His car is stolen while he's upstairs, but he doesn't do anything about it, just watches. In the end, Boris and Ana sit together on the bed and hold hands while they listen to a record.

background

In Un Mundo Misterioso is the second long film by Rodrigo Moreno . With his first work El Custodio - The Bodyguard he was already represented at the 56th Berlinale in 2006 and won the Alfred Bauer Prize. Un Mundo Misterioso ran in the competition at the 61st Berlinale . The film was produced by Rizoma Films , co-producers were Rohfilm in Berlin and Control Z in Montevideo. The production was also made with the support of ZDF and artes . The Match Factory took over the worldwide distribution . In this film, Moreno takes a very distant look at the love and identity that Boris is looking for, with which he negotiates the theme of universal forlornness addressed by festival director Dieter Kosslick .

criticism

The film received mostly negative reviews. Jutta Louise Oechler criticized aspects that Un Mundo Misterioso is boring and does not affect Boris as a character. It remains a mystery to them why anyone should watch this film. Stefan Kuzmany shares this criticism in the Berlinale blog on Spiegel Online . For him this film is extremely boring, he misses the plot in this film. Kuzmany also points out that Buenos Aires appears desolate to the viewer despite the blue sky. Matthias Wulff, who reviewed the film for the Berliner Morgenpost , also won the film from good sides towards the end of the competition. He wrote: “At the beginning of the film festival one might have asked oneself: What is a film like that? Today you are grateful for the level-headed camera work, a little bit of action in a flick that is as insignificant as a day without excitement, but which you would not have wanted to do without. "
